The rust madder4 field displays three “Eagle Kazak” medallions in navy and ecru. Often Caucasian Karabaghs (“Kazaks”) did not come in the appropriate sizes or colourways and the weavers in the Karaja area within the Heriz district were able to fill the gap with creations in the general style, usually with familiar borders such as the ivory ground reversing turtle palmette pattern.
