A large early painting by German artist Bruno Gronen, titled Akt (Nude) and dated 1967. A monumental female nude in flat pinks and reds, with reddish-brown hair and raised arms, fills the canvas against a busy background of blue, white, red, yellow and black brushstrokes, with areas of impasto.
Painted at the height of Pop Art, it shares the bold color and simplified contours of 1960s Pop figuration, with clear affinities to Tom Wesselmann. Gronen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and works in painting, object art and light art.
Signed and dated "B. Gronen 67" on the reverse. An older label on the reverse records the artist, title, year, medium and size.
