Louis Valtat (1869 - 1952) Well Listed French painter and printmaker associated with the Fauves ("the wild beasts", so named for their wild use of color), who's first exhibited together in 1905 at the Salon d'Automne. He is noted as a key figure in the stylistic transition in painting from Monet to Matisse. Very Fine still life oil on canvas painting. This beautifully composed painting captures a vibrant still life of red poppies overflowing from a delicate floral vase. Rendered in rich, textured strokes, the work is signed L. Valtat in the lower right, referencing Louis Valtat, the French Post-Impressionist. It Measures: 25 inches × 20 inches with the frame.
