This is a hand-carved Senufo Kpelie mask, a traditional African tribal mask originating from the Senufo people of Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso. It is typically associated with the Poro society, an initiation organization responsible for social control and traditional knowledge. The mask often represents an ideal of feminine beauty and is believed to bring blessings, protection, and good fortune. It features bold geometric detailing, textured patterns, and unique sculptural extensions, often including a bird motif atop the head.
