This is an antique Caucasian Pictorial Rug, specifically attributed to the Shirvan or Kuba region of the South Caucasus, dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1870). Key Characteristics of this Pattern & Style Pictorial Design: Unlike traditional tribal rugs that use purely abstract geometric emblems, a pictorial rug features distinct human figures, animals, or narrative scenes. The central focus here is a prominent human figure (often representing a local ruler, merchant, or folk figure) surrounded by stylized quadrupeds (deer/goats), birds, and smaller human figures.Geometric Symbols & Medallions: Flanking the central figure are classic Caucasian tribal motifs, including diamond-within-diamond geometry, checkerboard panels, tree-of-life symbols, and star/rosette polygons scattered across the vibrant sky-blue field.Multi-Layered Geometric Border: The main field is framed by highly detailed, multi-band borders featuring interlocking geometric teeth and repeating diamond-polygon chains characteristic of Shirvan Oriental Rugs and Kuba craftsmanship.
