Rug weaving was revived in Hereke near Istanbul in the 1960's and this extremely fine, all silk construction Wall piece is characteristic of that work with a shaped beige niche field with an asymmetric display of irises, racemes and stems, the elements flowing easily up to the maker's cartouche in metal thread epigraphy at the top. Roses grow vigourously in the spandrels. Border of ecru cartouches with flowers and vases, and intermediate octilobe rosettes.
