Extremely Fine Vintage Turkish Hereke Silk & Metal. This very finely knotted silk comes from the looms of Hereke near Istanbul, which have been working in purely urban Persian styles since the 1960’s. The oval beige field shows a variety of scrolled leaves, palmettes and flowers, and supports a reverse-scalloped yellow straw ogival medallion. Scalloped corners. Main border of feathery volute leaves enclosing palmettes. Very few Hereke weavings are in, as here, carpet sizes.
