From about the middle of the 19th century up until the early 20th,there was a production of well-woven scatter and larger pieces in earlier Ottoman styles from the Imperial carpet factory at Kum Kapi in Istanbul. This rug follows the c. 1600 Bursa Turkish style prayer rugs with an open, abrashed narrow tan field, set within wide borders featuring tulips, rosettes, saz leaves and starry octofoils. The rosette minor borders are similarly in theb earlier style. Cotton foundation, good condition.
